초록

Daegu has been perceived as the region that leads the somewhat rigid current of so-called “hardline conservatism” in Korean society. Acknowledging this fact, this study examines the ideological exceptionalism of Daegu conservatism and the problems it causes, using the fundamental orientation and values of conservative ideology as a standard. The purpose of this study is to identify the fundamental orientation of conservative ideology and, based on this, to closely analyze the ideological characteristics of Daegu conservatism. To this end, first, the traditional ideas and values of conservatism are defined as ‘substantive and universal conservatism.’ And by comparing this with reactionaryism, this study identifies their ideological orientation of conservative thought at a more specific level. Second, in order to investigate the ideological characteristics of Daegu conservatism, this study examines late-developing and derivative Korean conservatism as a ‘situational conservatism,’ which is the basis for the formation of Daegu ideological characteristics. Then It analyzes in detail the reactionary tendencies of Daegu conservatism, which embody the ideological problems of Korean conservatism. In conclusion, this study raises the task of ‘ideological normalization of Daegu conservatism.’ As the normative framework for this task, it focuses philosophical conservatism, which embodies substantive and universal values not bound by particular historical circumstances.
