한중 교류 전통정원 이용 후 평가 연구 - 월화원과 해동경기원을 중심으로 -

Traditional gardens’ establishment in foreign countries highlights a nation's cultural excellence and acts as a conduit for cultural exchange and collaboration. Studies on overseas traditional gardens have focused mainly on status assessments and expert evaluations, with limited research on local visitors’ perceptions. In contrast, this study investigates usage and perceptions of representative Korea–China exchange gardens, namely Wolhwawon in Suwon, South Korea, and Haedong Gyeonggiwon in Guangzhou, China. Using field surveys and questionnaires, the study evaluates these gardens’ role and value as exchange gardens and identifies areas for improvement. Findings revealed that both gardens’ users generally exhibited high preferences for and showed positive changes in perceptions of the other country’s culture. However, Haedong Gyeonggiwon received relatively low satisfaction on cultural experiences and reproduction of tradition, while Wolhwawon received lower satisfaction on promotion and provision of informational materials. To enhance cultural promotion through overseas traditional gardens, sustained management and promotional plans are essential. Additionally, consideration of diverse programs for cultural experiences alongside spatial development is deemed necessary.
