洒落本にみる慰めとしての恋愛の可能性– 山東京伝の『傾城買四十八手』を中心に –

This study examines Santo Kyoden’s Keisei Kai-Shijuhatte(1790) to explore how romance in the Yoshiwara pleasure quarters functioned as a form of emotional consolation. While previous research has discussed sharebon style, context, and courtesan agency, little attention has been paid to how “love” was imagined and performed within structural constraints as a male-centered experience. Focusing on key dialogues and scenes, this paper shows how the work codifies the language and rituals of staged affection, offering romance as a regulated play that eased male loneliness. It also reveals Kyoden’s paradox: when such affection became genuine, it threatened the very system that enabled it. This reading positions sharebon not merely as satire but as a guide to managing emotion and desire in Edo urban culture.
