학교 문법에서 모음 축약과 반모음화 기술의 일관성 문제

초록

The purpose of this study is to address the inconsistency in the description of ‘Vowel-coalescences’ and ‘Semi-vowelization’ within the domain of grammatical education, commonly referred to as “school grammar.” By examining the current state of these descriptions, this research seeks to underscore the necessity of consistent and systematic representation of grammatical phenomena. Grammatical phenomena, as objects of study, may be interpreted differently depending on the researcher. However, from the perspective of school grammar, situated within a national curriculum framework, it is imperative to provide precise and consistent explanations to minimize confusion among educators, learners, and across the broader educational landscape. This study focuses on the grammatical phenomena of ‘Vowel- coalescence’ and ‘Semi-vowelization’. To illustrate the inconsistencies associated with these concepts, the study analyzes the descriptions of these phenomena in textbooks from the 7th National Curriculum to the 2015 Revised Curriculum. Furthermore, it examines the treatment of these phenomena in grammar reference books commonly used at the level of Korean language education and Korean linguistics. In summary, the findings suggest two key points: first, semivowels should be recognized as phonemes; and second, ‘Semi-vowelization’ should be classified as a subcategory of the phonological change of ‘substitution’ within the framework of the curriculum.
