Andrei Serban의 <다른 춘향>의 연출 기법과 창극사적 의미

초록

This paper examines the directorial techniques and historical significance of the Changgeuk Different Chunhyang. Romanian director Andrei Serban is recognized as a world-renowned opera director and has focused on modernizing numerous classic narratives. In particular, he was aware of the universality of classical female narratives, such as Women of Troy, The Sealed Letter, and The Cherry Orchard. As an expert in Western classical music drama, he was deeply knowledgeable about Eastern classical music dramas as a scholar of Asian theater. This enabled Serban to direct the Changgeuk Different Chunhyang. Unlike the Changgeuk Chunhyangjeon that has been performed until now, Different Chunhyang repeatedly features scenes such as the prosecutor assaulting Chunhyang, the scene where Chunhyang is locked in a solitary prison cell that moves up and down the stage, and the people’s protest against Byeon Hak-do. Therefore, Different Chunhyang is the only work in the history of Changgeuk that praises Chunhyang’s love and belief in justice, using video devices to enhance the sense of presence and sensuality and featuring six choristers in a chorus-like arrangement.
