This study aims to explore the factors that spark interest in physics and physics education among pre-service physics teachers, as well as the challenges they face during their growth as educators. The participants are 29 pre-service teachers and they write essays titled “My Physics Education Story,” which were analyzed for key themes. The findings reveal that the main reasons for their interest in physics included the subject matter’s characteristics, their strong physics performance, and their physics teachers’ influence. Additionally, the pre-service teachers mention the impact of a peer instruction and the physics teachers as key factors in developing an interest in physics education. On the other hand, they also express difficulties in physics learning. Furthermore, they feel anxious about the need to understand and teach complex physics concepts, prepare for the teacher certification exam, and the uncertainties associated with the future of teaching profession. Based on the results, the study aims to offer recommendations for improving physics education and supporting teacher training programs.
