Climate change is reshaping environmental dynamics, yet its indirect consequences-such as the enhanced release and redistribution of persistent organic pollutants (POPs)-remain underrecognized. This review critically examines emerging categories of POPs in aqueous systems, including pesticides, synthetic dyes, chlorinated solvents, and perfluorinated compounds, whose mobilization is increasingly influenced by warming-induced phenomena such as volatilization and hydrological shifts. As a sustainable remediation strategy, biomassderived porous carbon materials (bPCMs) offer compelling advantages due to their tunable porosity, high surface area, and surface functional diversity. These materials have shown exceptional potential in selectively adsorbing diverse POPs from industrial, agricultural, and urban sources. We summarize the recent advances in bPCM synthesis, pollutant-specific interaction mechanisms, and comparative adsorption performances. Additionally, we identify key challenges-such as regeneration stability, pH sensitivity, and large-scale applicability-and outline future directions for optimizing bPCM design. This review aims to bridge material science and environmental engineering, offering a practical framework for the development of low-cost, high-efficiency adsorbents in the face of climate-driven pollution.
