Implications of principles in successional teeth formation on tooth regeneration

Various studies on tooth regeneration have been conducted. However, there are still no proper applications in the clinical field. This study suggests new conceptual approaches to dental hard tissue regeneration using analyzation and utilization of successional teeth formation. Polyphydontic species, such as reptiles and fish, have a unique signal transmission system in which teeth are replaced throughout life. Based on these observations, we analyze the signal transmission systems related to these specific teeth formations for regenerating dental hard tissue. Overall, this study would provide an opportunity to use these candidate signalings as blueprints for tooth regeneration by comparing them to normal teeth development.
