The Western modern civil revolution sought the path of political liberalism and economic capitalism that could provide freedom and equality to realize human dignity. However, in this process, disharmony between freedom and equality arose. In the process of expanding freedom, deepening inequality has emerged as a serious problem in society. As a result, the communist movement centered on Marx-Engels spread worldwide. However, communism's emphasis on equality created a situation that threatened freedom. Kierkegaard was the person who did philosophy in this situation of conflict. He believed that the root cause of the continuing conflict between freedom and equality was the attempt to solve politics through the logic of numbers. In his view, the 19th century European society in which he lived, especially Danish society, was in a situation where politics was converted to numerical logic and further extended this to religion. The bourgeoisie and Christian nation (Christendom), which he continually attacked, were unable to escape from politics subsumed by the logic of numbers. In his judgment, this situation was also the same in the case of communism, which was on the front line of conflict. Although Kierkegaard mentions so much about the politics of numbers, there is actually very little research on it. This article focuses on numbers and examines how he criticizes existing politics and religion and what he argues about how to overcome the politics of numbers in order to move toward a world that properly realizes freedom and equality. In addition, we would like to gauge the significance of his claim to go beyond the politics of numbers in modern society.
