洒落本研究の動向と一試論としての可能性

This study reconsiders the function of Sharebon(洒落本) literature by tracing research trends since the 1950s and proposing a semiotic approach that focuses on clothing and consumption as cultural codes within Edo-period pleasure quarters. Analyzing three texts that prominently depict fashion and taste—Yushi Hogen(『遊子方言』), Musuko Beya(『令子洞房』), and Keiseikai Shijuhatte (『傾城買四十八手』)—this paper shows how characters’ appearances visualized the ideal tsujin(通人) and embodied consumer values in tension with Kansei (寛政) sumptuary reforms. Rather than treating Sharebon as mere entertainment, it proposes a preliminary semiotic framework through which Sharebon may be redefined as a cultural medium negotiating social norms and aesthetic desire.
