집행기능과 ADHD 증상의 관계에서 창의적 인지의 조절효과: 구조방정식 모형을 활용하여

The symptoms of Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) have many aspects, including deficits in executive functions (EFs) and high creativity. Some researchers have explained the high creativity of ADHD as a result of poor EFs, but the relationship between the two factors seem to be inconsistent. We hypothesized that the factor of creative cognition has to be considered to better understand the symptoms of ADHD. Therefore, we aimed to examine the moderating effect of creative cognition on the relationship between ADHD symptoms and EFs. We assessed ADHD tendency, EFs, and creative cognition in 350 young adults using self-report scales and analyzed the moderation model. As a result, the moderating effect of creative cognition on the relationship between ADHD and EFs was significant. Specifically, higher creative cognition was associated with a higher tendency for ADHD when EFs was low, and conversely, higher creative cognition was associated with a lower tendency for ADHD when EFs was high. This result shows that the symptoms of ADHD may include not only deficits in EFs but also creative cognition. Finally, the theoretical and clinical implications of the result are discussed.
