Amoxicillin

Treatment of Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) is warranted and normally done with combination of antibiotics (such as amoxicillin, clarithromycin, or others) and a proton pump inhibitor. However, the eradication rate of legacy triple therapy has been decreasing because of the increase in resistance to clarithromycin. Likewise, treatment failure due to amoxicillin, a primary antimicrobial agent for H. pylori eradication, resistance has been noted since 20 years ago. Increasing levels of resistance to amoxicillin contribute to treatment failures, and higher levels of resistance are believed to be due to multiple genetic mutations. However, the exact mechanism of amoxicillin resistance and its contribution to eradication failure has not been fully elucidated. © Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2023. All rights reserved.
