초록

This study examined the longitudinal mediating effect of executive function difficulties in the relationship between parent–child interaction in early elementary school and media device addiction in later elementary school. A multivariate latent growth modeling approach was employed using longitudinal data from the Panel Study of Korean Children, spanning from Wave 7 (age 6) to Wave 13 (age 12). The analysis revealed that the intercept of parent–child interaction had a significant direct effect on the intercept and slope of media device addiction, and the indirect effect via executive function difficulties indicated a partial mediation. In contrast, the slope of parent–child interaction did not have a significant direct effect on the slope of media device addiction, but a significant indirect effect via the slope of executive function difficulties indicated a full mediation. These findings provide empirical evidence for the longitudinal pathway through which parent–child interaction and executive function difficulties influence media device addiction in childhood, highlighting their importance as key protective factors for prevention and intervention.
