교육 목적 동화의 서사전략과 문학교육적 의의 - 과학동화 『와이즈만 과학동화 시리즈』를 중심으로 -

초록

This paper examines science fairy tales from the perspectives of literature and literary education, focusing on texts that children actively read today. As a case study, it analyzes the Wiseman Science Fairy Tale Series, a widely read collection from the 2010s, to explore narrative strategies and educational significance in science-themed stories for children. Science fairy tales use literary techniques—such as humorous characters, detective-style plots, and transitions into extraordinary worlds—to convey scientific knowledge in engaging ways. These elements are embedded within a narrative structure that alternates between external and internal stories. The humorous characterization enhances emotional engagement, while the detective framework sustains narrative tension. The temporary experience of fantastical worlds adds to reader interest and supports genre familiarity. Through the repetition and variation of these structures, readers gain indirect literary experience and develop a deeper understanding of narrative form. Additionally, the series promotes ethical reflection, particularly on the value of small or overlooked life forms, by presenting discourses on bioethics and the discovery of otherness. Fantasy elements are used to reveal hidden dimensions of reality, encouraging readers to broaden their perception of the world and others. In sum, science fairy tales combine literary enjoyment, ethical inquiry, and imaginative expansion, offering meaningful contributions to children’s literary education. Continued development of these literary dimensions can further enhance their educational role.
