The Effect of the Height Change of the Hind Legs on the Muscle Activity of the Trunk and Thigh Muscles during the Lunge Exercise

초록

Objective: The purpose of this study was to compare and analyze the effect of the height change of the hind legs on the muscle activity of the trunk and femoral muscles during lunge exercise to present a quantitative reference point for the posture of efficient lunge exercise according to the purpose of exercise. Method: For this study, eleven males with no known musculoskeletal disorders were recruited as the participants. To assess the myoelectric activities of selected trunk and knee muscles, eight pairs of surface electrodes with amplification circuitry (QEMG8, Laxtha Inc., Korea) were used. In this experiment, to set the height change of the hind legs during lunge exercise, it was divided into lunge motion on a flat and stable ground, compressed styrofoam with 0%, 10%, 20% of the subject's height, and a height adjustment mat applied to the lower extremities, and exercise was performed in a random order. The SPSS 25.0 program was used to verify the significant difference. For each dependent variable, a one-way ANOVA with repeated measures was performed with significance level of .05. Bonferroni's were performed to execute post hoc analysis for results with statistical significance. Results: The major findings of this study were that (a) when 10% of the subject's height was applied to the hind legs rather than lunge on a flat and stable ground, the muscle activity of the left rectus abdominus, rectus femoris, vastus medialis, and biceps femoris were significantly increased. (b) when 20% of the subject's height was applied to the hind legs rather than lunge on a flat and stable ground, the muscle activity of the erector spine, rectus femoris, vastus medialis, and biceps femoris were significantly increased. (c) during the lunge exercise in which 20% of the subject's height was applied to the hind legs, the muscle activity was tended to decrease compared to the case where 10% of the subject's height was applied to the hind legs. Conclusion: Based on the results of this study, it can be concluded that the most effective method of lunge exercise is to apply 10% height of the height to the hind legs during lunge exercise.
