초록

The escalating severity of the climate crisis, evidenced by numerous casualties from abnormal high temperatures, heavy rains, and widespread forest fires worldwide, has prompted urgent global action. Efforts within the international community aim to cap temperature escalation within 1.5 °C, with governments globally, including ours, committing to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050. Korea’s envisioned 2050 carbon neutrality scenario emphasizes the pivotal role of CCS (Carbon Capture and Storage) technology as an indispensable means to achieve this goal. Highlighted in an IEA report, the virtually insurmountable challenge of limiting global temperature rise to 1.5 degrees without CCS technology underscores its paramount importance. CCS is assessed as a technology capable of rapidly reducing carbon dioxide levels. This paper provides an overview of CCS technology and outlines recent trends in both domestic and international companies' approaches in this field.
