청소년기의 물질주의 가치관 형성 요인: 교사의 성취압력 및 교사-학생 관계를 중심으로

Purpose: This study examined how teachers influence materialistic value formation among adolescents from a Self-Determination Theory perspective, focusing on the effects of teachers’ achievement pressure and teacher-student relationship. Design/methodology/data/approach: Using data from the Korean Education Longitudinal Study 2013 (waves 6–8), we analyzed responses from 5,656 high school students. Path analysis was conducted to examine the mediating roles of extrinsic motivation, academic stress, and psychological well-being. Findings/Results: Teachers’ achievement pressure significantly increased students’ materialistic values, partially mediated by academic stress and extrinsic motivation. In contrast, the positive teacher-student relationship significantly reduced materialistic values by enhancing psychological well-being and lowering extrinsic motivation. Value: This study demonstrates that teacher behaviors can affect students' autonomy and relatedness needs, extending the applicability of Self-Determination Theory to educational contexts. Practically, the findings offer valuable insights for teacher professional development programs and school policies aimed at fostering healthier value development in adolescents.
