충혜왕 즉위년(1330) 입성론(立省論)의 배경과 의미

초록

This study re-examines the 1330 proposal to 'install and operate Jungdong Haengsung (征東行省)'[Ipsung-立省] in Yuan China, from the perspective of the complexity of Koryo-Mongol relations. Previous studies have viewed the debate as a political manoeuvre accompanying the conflict between Kings Chungsuk and Chunghye, caused by interference from the Yuan dynasty. However, this article challenges the assumption that the initiator of the proposal, Jang Baek-sang (蔣伯祥), was part of King Chungsuk's entourage. It also highlights the lack of explanation as to how his interests could have been compensated for by Ipsung in this context. Given the fact that Jang Baek-sang was the 'former Jwausa-nangjung (左右司郎中)' of Jungdong Haengsung at the time, this study reveals that his discussion of Ipsung raised questions about the relationship between the order of the Goryeo state order and the Mongolian bureaucratic system. These questions arose during the process of King Chungsuk overturning the appointment of a temporary supervisor of Jungdong Haengsung affairs[Kwonseo Jungdong Haengsung Sa-權署征東行省事], which had been made by King Chunghye. Jang Baek-sang's proposal of Ipsung was a protest against his unfair dismissall, the abuse of power by the governor of Jungdong Haengsung, and the influence of the Goryeo sovereign on the Mongolian bureaucratic system. Ultimately, however, the Yuan court ultimately rejected Jang’s proposal for Ipsung. Nevertheless, this case provides valuable insight into the boundaries and conflicts within the political order between Goryeo and Mongolia concerning Jungdong Haengsung.
