‘소크라테스 대화’를 통한 시민교육의 실천적 방법에 관한 고찰

초록

The “being alone” culture is becoming a culture beyond mere fashion in contemporary Korea. In addition, rapidly developing social media such as SNS, Facebook, and Instagram are used as one-way communication channels to express one’s voice rather than as a network for communication with each other. This form of individualistic life that lacks communication and solidarity further intensifies the various conflicts that our society is currently experiencing. It also weakens people’s identity as democratic citizens, resulting in a crisis for democracy. In order to solve the challenges that we are experiencing today, characteristics for democratic citizens, such as critical thinking and rational communication skills are required. Therefore, this study aims to identify practical methods of civic education that strengthen democratic citizenship and its capabilities. In so doing, the study explores the “Neo-Socratic dialogue” of the Nelson-Heckman tradition, which was developed by reinterpreting ancient Socratic conversations from a modern perspective, and examines its validity as a practical method for civic education.
