외국인 유학생을 위한 한국문학 수업 사례 연구- 김춘수의 「꽃」을 중심으로

This study presents a case study of Korean literature classes for international students, focusing on the use of Kim Chun-soo’s poem “Flower”. The purpose of the study is to explore the practical potential and pedagogical value of incorporating literary texts into Korean language and culture education. The class was structured into five stages — poem appreciation and explanation, translation into the learners’ first languages, imitative poem writing, reflective essay presentations, and PPT presentations — and the outputs produced at each stage were qualitatively analyzed to examine learners’ meaning-making processes and expressive patterns. The findings show that the learners reconstructed the meanings and nuances of key poetic expressions based on their linguistic and cultural backgrounds. In the imitative writing task, they transformed personal subjects such as family, friends, and memories into new ‘flowers,’ drawing on the form of the original poem to express their emotions and experiences through poetic imagery. In the reflective essay presentations, the learners expanded the idea of ‘calling a name’ to encompass relational connection, recognition of existence, and explorations of cultural identity, demonstrating deeper levels of reflection. The subsequent PPT presentations facilitated intercultural communication, empathy, and interaction as learners visually organized and shared their creative texts and personal narratives. Overall, the results indicate that “Flower” functions as an effective literary text that fosters emotional engagement, self-reflection, creative expression, and cultural understanding among international students. However, the study is limited by its short two-week duration and the participation of students from a single program. Future studies should involve learners with more diverse backgrounds and examine the longer-term effects of literature-based instruction.
