초록
This study examines the principles of polysemy formation and the semantic relationships of body-part terms in Korean, Russian, and Uzbek. It integrates Pustejovsky(1995)’s Qualia Structure Theory with Heine et al.(1991)’s grammaticalization hierarchy (Person > Object > Activity > Space > Time > Quality). The analysis shows that core meanings expand from concrete to abstract concepts through contiguity and similarity. Polysemy and homonymy are distinguished by semantic relatedness rather than formal identity. The study proposes defining dictionary entries using qualia-based information—such as location, function, composition, and origin—to improve clarity and consistency. Comparing the three languages’ dictionaries reveals that etymological or frequency-based ordering has cognitive limitations. Therefore, this study suggests arranging senses from concrete to abstract following the conceptual hierarchy. The proposed model offers a coherent framework for explaining how body-part terms develop multiple meanings across languages.
