勧誘表現として使用される「ますか」に関する一考察 -「ませんか」との比較を通して-

This study focused on masuka, an expression used for making solicitations, investigating and examining how native Japanese speakers and native Korean speakers of Japanese perceive and use it. Whilst mashō and masenka are typically presented as representative solicitation expressions in Japanese language education, masuka, which is confirmed to be used in actual communication, is scarcely covered in textbooks. Addressing this issue, this study analyzed 11 commercially available Japanese textbooks and 14 secondary school textbooks used in Korea. It also conducted a survey involving 56 native Japanese speakers and 90 Korean learners. Analysis revealed that native Japanese speakers tended to use masuka as a solicitation only in situations with a strong underlying premise that a specific action should be performed. In contrast, learners exhibited a tendency to use it more broadly as a general solicitation expression. This difference appears to stem from the contrastive presentation of mashō and masenka emphasized in textbooks. Consequently, this study suggests that instruction reflecting the actual usage patterns of masuka is necessary in Japanese language teaching settings. This would enable learners to understand and utilize masuka more appropriately in real communication situations.
