개잎갈나무(Cedrus deodara) 가로수의 현황과 결함 및 관리 특성 분석

We investigated the current status and management characteristics of Cedrus deodara street trees in the Yeongdong and Yeongnam regions. A total of 309 trees were visually assessed in eight regions (Donghae, Gangneung, Samcheok, Daegu, Gumi, Busan, Changwon, and Jinju) within Gangwon-do and Gyeongsang-do from June to August in 2022 and 2023. The status of C. deodara varied by road, and tree defects such as pest infestations, stem wounds, and root defects were observed in all sites. Protective frames were predominantly square or semicircular. In some instances, the frames were not enough to contain the trees, leading to damage such as root cutting and girdling. Understory vegetation included the grass Lampranthus spectabilis and the ivy Parthenocissus tricuspidata was found growing on the tree trunks in Gangneung. Trees are notably tall and planted in median strips in Daegu where stem clamps at the root collar and wire guying were installed to prevent tree falling and wind uprooting. These findings provide basic data for establishing, maintaining, and improving the growth environment for C. deodara street trees.
