This study explores the influence of chansons on the formation of the young Baudelaire's artistic world in the 1840s as part of a broader effort to establish Baudelaire's musical aesthetics. The emergence of chanson culture during the French Revolution is closely tied to the development of Romanticism. Medieval genres such as ballads and romances were widely popular, and chansons influenced by early German Romanticism increased in number in France as well. Béranger, who was active primarily in singing societies like Caveau and goguettes, earned the title of national poet with his politically satirical and populist chansons. While Baudelaire criticized Béranger, he praised Pierre Dupont, who positioned himself as a spokesperson for the people, as a new kind of poet. Baudelaire's contrasting attitudes toward chansons and chanson creators, as well as his interest in them, reveal his intention to create a new form of poetry through chansons. Rather than simply imitating folk songs and Renaissance rhythms, the young Baudelaire reinterpreted various song genres in his own way, crafting a new form of modern song.
