Analysis of physical activity characteristics of Korean high school students according to gender and fitness level

초록

This study examined daily physical activity among high school students by intensity using a three-dimensional accelerometer and analyzed differences by gender and fitness level. A total of 206 students (106 boys, 100 girls) from four coeducational high schools participated, wearing the accelerometer for one week. Data were analyzed with SPSS 29.0 using frequency analysis, descriptive statistics, two-way ANOVA, and LSD post-hoc tests. The results showed that the average daily MVPA was 40.3 minutes, and only 14.1% of students met the WHO guidelines. Significant differences were found by gender and fitness level: boys had less sedentary time and more light activity and MVPA than girls, and students with higher fitness levels were more active than those with lower levels. A significant interaction between gender and fitness level was observed for MVPA, with greater gender gaps among lower fitness groups. In conclusion, Korean high school students showed generally low physical activity levels, with low-fitness female students being particularly at risk.
