코로나19 팬데믹이 맞벌이 여성 임금근로자의 가사노동에 미치는 영향

초록

This study examines the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the time spent on housework by female wage earners in dual-income households. It employs three theoretical frameworks - time availability theory, the relative resource perspective, and the doing gender approach - to conduct a longitudinal analysis using data from the seventh and eighth waves of the Korean Longitudinal Survey of Women and Families(KLoWF). Results from logistic regression analysis indicate that women in their thirties and forties, those with preschool and school-age children, professional women, and those with nontraditional family values significantly increased their housework hours after the pandemic. In particular, the increase in housework among professional women and those with nontraditional values challenges traditional assumptions and suggests that the pandemic disrupted the previous reliance of relatively young, married, professional women on outside services for housework. This suggests that the pandemic may have caused higher-earning professional and full-time women to exit the labor market, potentially leading to career interruptions. This study is important because it underscores the urgent need for policy solutions to alleviate the double burden faced by married women during large-scale social crises such as the COVID-19 pandemic and encourages a reassessment of the societal implications of domestic work.
