『孟子』를 통해 본 ‘也’의 텍스트 기능

초록

Until now, most studies on the function of ‘也’ appearing at the end and middle of sentences in pre-qin period have been limited to discussions within individual sentences. This study analyzed ‘Mencius’ and examined how ‘也’ contributing to the composition of the text, not only in the preceding and following sentences, but also in the entire paragraph. In particular, this study paid attention to elucidating the principles that cohesively form a text by identifying its semantic relationships with other propositions. As a result, ‘也’ at the end of a sentence performed text functions such as proposition, expatiation, and inference, and at the middle of sentences performed text functions such as introduction, connection, and contrast.
