초록

Melt quenching was utilized in the synthesis of lithium borate glasses: Pure and doped with 1 mol% Eu3+ (LBEu). Photoluminescence (PL), structural, X-ray luminescence, and optical behavior were investigated. Via X-ray diffraction, the amorphous character and structural uniformity of the synthesized glasses were established, which displayed broad halos characteristic of non-crystalline materials. X-ray luminescence shows five emission bands; the highest emission peak occurs at 613 nm due to the 5D0 → 7F2 transition of Eu3+. PL excitation spectra exhibit nine peaks due to the 4ƒ −4ƒ transitions of the Eu3+ ion, where the dominant peak occurs at 393 nm. PL emissions show five bands, the dominant emission being at 613nm (5D0 → 7F2). CIE color coordinates derived from the luminescence spectra indicate that the emission falls mainly within the reddish-orange region. These properties suggest that LBEu glassy matrices are favorable materials for reddish-orange emission applications in tissue equivalent dose monitoring, photonics, scintillators, and display systems.
