Exploring the Network Performance Management of Kubernetes in Edge Devices

This paper examines the effect of parameter tuning on network bandwidth management in Kubernetes environments. Although Linux tc is commonly used for traffic shaping, our experiments show that it often fails to provide stable network performance. We conclude that the root cause of this instability is improper parameter tuning between Kubernetes and Linux tc. In particular, this paper identifies the burst parameter as a key factor in achieving stable network performance. Our evaluation results demonstrate that configuring the appropriate burst parameter can ensure more stable and predictable traffic control in Kubernetes. © 2025 IEEE.
