자살방조 범죄 현황 분석(2019~2023년 선고된 판결문 기준으로)

This study analyzed the current status of the crime of assisting suicide and identified the actual situation by analyzing 81 criminal judgments sentenced for assisting suicide from January 1, 2019 to December 31, 2023. Variables were categorized into general, crime, perpetrator, and victim characteristics. The motivation for the crime was most often a group suicide in 73 cases (90.1%), which indicates that the perpetrator was also at high risk of reattempting suicide. At the time of the crime, the perpetrator had a mental illness in 29 cases (30.9%), of which depression was the most common in 22 cases (59.5%). Financial hardship (19 cases, 21.3%) and debt-related issues (13 cases, 14.6%) were the leading motives for suicide. Methods included drug ingestion (58 cases, 63.7%) and gas inhalation from charcoal or briquette burning (57 cases, 70.4%). More than half of first-time encounters between perpetrators and victims (31 cases, 56.4%) occurred via non-face-to-face online platforms, highlighting the need for monitoring social networking and video-sharing services. The findings suggest that while perpetrators should be held accountable for violating the victims’ right to life, prevention measures should also address their own suicide risk and focus on reducing recidivism in collective suicide attempts.
