性齋 許傳의 說理詩에 나타난형식적 파격과 그 의미 -｢古今吟｣ 등 五言古絶 5題를 중심으로-

초록

This study analyzes five Philosophical Poem[說理詩]—“Gogeum-eum”(古今吟), “Georae-eum”(去來吟), “Danjang-eum”(短長吟), “Noso-eum”(老少吟), and “Mula-eum”(物我吟)—composed by Seongjae(性齋) Heo Jeon(許傳, 1797–1886). It explores the literary characteristics arising from the interplay of thematic content and poetic form. These poems incorporate core Neo-Confucian ideas such as veneration of antiquity[上古主義], the cyclical nature of time, cultivation the mind-heart[心性修養], and the extension of benevolence[仁], while simultaneously deviating from conventional prosodic norms (Pyeongcheokbeop 平仄法 and Amunbeop 押韻法). Repetition of identical phrases, symmetrical couplets [對偶構成], and the active use of self-referential titles[犯題] reflect Heo Jeon’s meticulously crafted poetic strategies. These formal innovations become even more distinctive when compared with the works of Hyehwan(惠寰) Yi Yong-hyu(李用休). Each poem is constructed upon a binary opposition between yin(陰) and yang(陽), collectively forming a poetic structure that mirrors the taegeuk(太極) model of cosmic circulation. Furthermore, the five poems together constitute an integrated philosophical system through their head-to-tail coherence[首尾相關]. Through this composition, Heo Jeon aims not merely to “Literature as a vehicle for the Confucian Dao[文以載道]”, but to embody the Way in the very form and structure of the poetry itself. These works thus transcend the typical boundaries of moralistic or didactic verse and establish a distinctive literary order wherein Neo-Confucian thought is expressed through poetic form. As such, the five poems represent a significant example of Philosophical Poem[說理詩] that visualizes philosophical reflection through form and structure, suggesting a new literary potential within the genre. Moreover, these features are not limited to Heo Jeon's personal style but offer potential for broader inquiry into the poetic aesthetics of the Seongho(星湖) school[學派] and the historical development of Philosophical Poem[說理詩] within late Joseon poetry.
