초록
This study analyzes productivity changes in the Korean automobile industry from 2010 to 2021 using a stochastic production frontier model applied to a balanced panel dataset. The fixed-effects panel stochastic production frontier model proposed by Greene (2005) is employed, with estimation performed using the maximum likelihood method suggested by Chen et al. (2014). This study contributes by adopting a more refined methodological approach-incorporating firm-level heterogeneity in production technology-to address the limitations of previous domestic research. The findings reveal that the total factor productivity (TFP) of firms that consistently maintained production activities has generally declined over the study period. Furthermore, a detailed decomposition of productivity changes using the methodology of Kumbhakar et al. (2000) indicates that key components-technological progress, scale efficiency and allocative efficiency-have deteriorated in most years.
