정주의『주역』해석에 대한 강석경의 비판과 그 역학사상 ― ｢역의문답｣을 중심으로 ―

초록

This paper examines Kang Seok-gyeong’s ｢Yeok-ui Mundap｣, focusing on his critical stance toward Cheng Yi(程頤) and Zhu Xi(朱熹)’s interpretation of the 『Zhouyi』, on this basis, the paper explores both his method of interpreting the 『Zhouyi』 and the philosophical ideas underlying his Yi-ology. First, Kang sought to integrate image–number(象數) and moral–principle(義理) approaches, yet emphasized the primacy of image–number interpretation, since he regarded the Book of Changes as fundamentally a divinatory text. Second, Kang critiqued Cheng Yi and Zhu Xi’s scholarship by grounding his interpretation in both the 『Yijing』 and the 『Yichuan』. He especially emphasized grasping the original intent of the 『Yijing』, venerating King Wen(文王) as a teacher, and cautioned against understanding the Book of Changes solely through Confucius’s 『Yichuan』. This interpretive orientation is clearly reflected in his distinctive analysis of the Dun hexagram (遯卦). In this way, he sharply criticizes cases in which the 『Chengchuan(程傳)』 and 『Benyi(本義)』 lack coherence with the Gua-Yao Ci(卦爻辭), while at the same time adopting certain aspects of Zhu Xi’s views, thereby critically inheriting Zhu Xi’s interpretation of the Book of Changes. Although this indicates a limitation in that he did not completely escape the influence of Song-dynasty Yixue (the study of the Book of Changes), it can nonetheless be regarded as a meaningful attempt to establish his own interpretive principles without absolutizing the existing Cheng-Zhu Yixue(程朱易學). Yeok-ui Mundap, therefore, can be evaluated not merely as a simple question-and-answer text, but as a critical and alternative proposal to the prevailing interpretive framework of Cheng Yi and Zhu Xi’s Yi-ology in late Joseon(朝鮮).
