The Balhae-Tang War, which took place in 732, was an international conflict involving various countries around it. In the meantime, the particulars of the conflict including the background of Balhae's attack on the Tang, the development of the conflict and the results have been made clear. However, some have raised the opinion that Balhae, played a proxy war on behalf of the Turks in the confrontation between Tang and the Turks. But the Balhae and Tang Wars should be dealt with from the standpoint of Balhae. Balhae conflicted with the Tang over the repatriation of Dae-munye. Tang was not only indifferent but also deceptive in solving problems. When problem solving seemed distant, the burden on the state affairs of King Mu increased. In the end, King Mu relieved Hyeonjong through deception and launched a surprise attack. In the past, Balhae had experience of defeating the Tang in the battle of Cheonmunryung. Above all, Balhae chose a forced attack in anticipation that it would be difficult for the Tang to directly attack Balhae. The war that lasted for several years reached a turning point in 734 with the death of Turk ruler Bilgaehan. The Turks fell into internal conflict. King Mu watched the death of Bilgaehan and worried that Balhae could be shaken by internal strife after his death. In the end, King Mu hurriedly concluded the war in order not to burden his next successor, Dae-heum.
