초록

Purpose: This study aims to examine and reflect on the significant achievements of Bok Num Doh. Although she was honored with the 41st Florence Nightingale Medal by the International Committee of the Red Cross in 2007, there has been a notable lack of systematic research on her contributions, highlighting the need for this study. Methods: To analyze and evaluate the achievements of Bok Num Doh, two categories of sources were utilized. Primary sources included academic materials, articles, newspapers, journals, and other publicly available documents from the same period. These were further supplemented by direct interviews to address potential data gaps. Secondary sources consisted of reviews obtained from relevant third parties to reassess and corroborate the primary data, ensuring the content was structured and interpreted comprehensively. Results: Bok Num Doh dedicated 40 years of service as a professor of psychiatric mental health nursing at Kyungpook National University. She was widely recognized for her pioneering contributions to the innovation of nursing education systems as well as the development and promotion of mental health services in regional communities. Her key achievements included establishing professional psychiatric mental health nursing services, advancing psychiatric nursing practices, and improving the accessibility and quality of mental health services, particularly in underserved areas. Conclusion: The achievements of Bok Num Doh represented innovative contributions to both nursing education and community mental health. Despite numerous challenges, her work has had a lasting impact on the evolution of nursing education systems and mental health care, solidifying her legacy as a leader in the field.
