Interpretation of YeolhaIlgi - A Analysis of the Spatiotemporal Significance of Yeonam, Anui, and Myeoncheon

초록

As a way of discussing Park Ji-won’s YeolhaIlgi, attention can be paid to the narrative structure leading to Park Ji-won of Yeonam, Park Ji-won of Anui, and Park Ji-won of Myeoncheon County. As Park Ji-won abandoned her dream of entering the government post, Yeonam land in Hwanghae-do was particularly interested in around 1771. Park Ji-won’s attachment to Yeonam is also related to YeolhaIlgi’s Bukhak thought. Park Ji-won’s Bukhak thought served as the prefectural governor of Anui, Gyeongsang-do from 1792 to 1796 and served as the basis for local administration. However, at that time, Park Ji-won was pressured to immediately write and submit a letter of apology, along with Jeongjo’s point that the YeolhaIlgi was a sample of writing that was not correct. However, Park Ji-won did not immediately respond to King Jeongjo’s orders. Park Ji-won wrote and submitted a letter of apology five years later after he was appointed as the governor of Myeoncheon-gun, Chungcheong-do, in 1797. Park Ji-won wrote two articles, <SeoYibangikSa>, GwanongSocho, and reported them to King Jeongjo as a reflection on the YeolhaIlgi. Park Ji-won took the lead in advocating and practicing practical knowledge by exposing the hypocritical and predatory morality of Confucian intellectuals, as can be seen simply through the <Hozil> of the YeolhaIlgi. Park Ji-won’s Bukhak thought implies that “human nature can fall into a state that is not as good as animal nature.”
