실존적 치료와 독서치료의 융합을 통한 그림책 연구 - 지미 리아오의 『왼쪽으로 가는 여자, 오른쪽으로 가는 남자』를 중심으로 -

초록

Despite the deepening relational alienation and existential concerns in contemporary society, research on adult bibliotherapy remains limited. This study explores Jimmy Liao's Turn Left, Turn Right through qualitative textual analysis, integrating Shrodes' three-stage bibliotherapy theory with existential therapy principles. Through interdisciplinary approaches combining literature, philosophy, education, and counseling psychology, this research analyzes the theoretical mechanisms by which picture books' multimodal characteristics contribute to existential healing in adults. The findings indicate that the identification stage activates existential emptiness through everyday texts and visual images, the catharsis stage implements emotional purification through repetitive missed-encounter structures, and the insight stage presents transformation toward new existential attitudes through hopeful messages. This study theoretically explores how picture books' visual narratives implement therapeutic mechanisms that intuitively convey existential experiences difficult to verbalize, and presents analytical methodologies for bibliotherapy professionals. However, as a theoretical analysis study without empirical data, future research with actual reader responses is needed.
