‘혐오’의 공기 경향성과 의미적 운율 - 뉴스 기사문 말뭉치를 중심으로 -

The simple definitions of ‘hyemo (hatred)’ offered by Korean dictionaries have served to increase public confusion with regard to the understanding and interpretation of recent hate-related issues. Thus, this paper examines the meaning of ‘hyemo’ in specific contexts by investigating the frequency, collocations and semantic prosody of the word. To achieve this, I first constructed a corpus of newspaper articles spanning from 1990 to 2019 in which ‘hyemo’ appeared and then examined what tendencies the co-occurrences of ‘hyemo’ revealed in the media texts for each year. It appeared that the words in the co-occurrence window for ‘hyemo’ mostly referred to objects of hatred, which have changed over time. In addition, I performed a keyword analysis by comparing the annual sub-corpora with the entire ‘hyemo’ corpus. As a result, I was able to identify the topics in the ‘hyemo’ texts that were major issues in each period. The list of co-occurrences and the keyword list for the ‘hyemo’ texts provide a solid foundation for further studies on the semantic analysis of the word ‘hyemo’ and, thus, contribute to overcoming the limitations of the current dictionary definitions.
