주체의 탄생: 『필경사 바틀비』와 자기변혁

초록

This study seeks to investigate the potential and necessity for a novel cognitive approach to humanities research, one that corresponds to the singularity of scientific and technological advancements and knowledge accumulation in the 21c century. In particular, this study aims to challenge the existing binary oppositional structure prevalent in study of the subject and instead focuses on the exploration of the ‘third in-between area,’ where a new subject paradigm and sources of dynamic creation can be uncovered. This ‘third realm’ has the potential to enable the self-transformation of the subject through the the creation of an ‘unheimlich void’ via the ‘magical operation of (im)possible.’ Furthermore, when individual self-transformation leads to collective transformation, this type of subject research can also contribute to the larger project of social transformation. The case study of Bartleby, the scrivener by Hermann Melville serves as a prime example of how this transformation of the subject can be achieved.
