초록

This thesis presents a comparative analysis of how Korean onomatopoeic words are translated in the Mainland Chinese and Taiwanese versions of The Empire of Light. In the original text, 92 onomatopoeic words appear a total of 113 times . In the Mainland Chinese version, 94 words are translated and 19 are omitted, while in the Taiwanese version 95 are translated and 18 are omitted. In both versions, they are often translated with corresponding Chinese onomatopoeic words, conveying vividness, but in some instances, they are translated using non-onomatopoeic words. Syntactically, Korean onomatopoeic words are mainly translated into Chinese as independent words, adverbials, attributes, and predicates.
