Popular Fairy tales with children readers present characters and narratives that resonate with them. This paper examines the relatable character's traits and community aspects of fairy tales written in the 2010s, focusing on popular library rentals—Kamnyang the Cat Solver 1 and Suspicious Apartment. The characters in Kamnyang the Cat Solver and Suspicious Apartment are both curious and interested in others, and these traits lead them to violate the fundamental rules of their apartment. However, these violations are not punished; they are rewarded with enjoyable activities or a sense of pride for having done a good deed. Narratives featuring characters who transgress and whose transgressions result in rewards rather than punishments are engaging for young readers. Kamnyang in Kamnyang the Cat Solver is an anthropomorphic cat who lives freely without adult supervision. Through her cute appearance, she bridges the psychological distance and builds intimacy while achieving what she desires. By playing with children who exhibit social deficiencies, Kamnyang observes and connects with their desires, not their flaws. Through these children readers experience the joys of transgression and play. The character in Suspicious Apartment is also curious, and begins observing an elderly person in his aunt's apartment, where he is temporarily staying. However, while the adults label this active interest in others as a flaw, the child's active observation opens up possibilities for community communication and is recognized as an ethical act. The reason these characters break apartment rules without being punished is because they function as members who offer gifts to the inner others of the community. This can be seen as a new community ethic that transcends existing morality. It is an ethic of responsibility that is normally latent in a loose sense of community, but becomes active in specific events. It is fundamentally based on the idea that all community members are flawed beings, like children. In this way, these works resonated with children readers by presenting narratives that violate established morals through appealing characters. However, these violations do not lead to a subversion that brings about a new order. While the characters in these works serve as mediators of communication, they both pursue new ethics within the boundaries permitted by established morality.
