This study analyzes the political changes in the Öngüt tribe in the early 13th century, focusing on Princess Alaqai Beki's marriages and her activities as Princess Regent(監國公主). The marriage of Alaqai Beki represented Genghis Khan's first political marriage alliance with a foreign tribe, which began with an agreement with Alaqush around 1204 but was delayed due to Alaqush's death and internal turmoil within Öngüt. The alliance finally materialized through marriage to Shengui after 1211. As a Princess Regent, Alaqai Beki exercised extensive political and military authority beyond the Öngüt region, contributing significantly to the Mongol Empire's conquest of the Jin Dynasty and stabilization of northern China. Contrary to prior research, she was not merely a representative of her husband's authority but an independent ruler endorsed by imperial decree. Her remarriage and adoption of heirs reshaped internal power structures within Öngüt, emphasizing the strategic implications of such marriages beyond simple diplomatic ties. Ultimately, this study highlights the active political and military roles of Mongol imperial princesses in imperial expansion and political stabilization.
