초록

This paper examines the theme of gambling as depicted in Pushkin's The Queen of Spades and Dostoevsky's The Gambler. In both works, card games and gambling serve as modeling systems of the world for German and Alexei While gambling can be seen as merely a game that stimulates humane desire, it also holds the power to determine human fate. The aim of this study is to explore how these tendencies of gambling are portrayed in The Queen of Spades and The Gambler, and to compare the images of German and Alexei in terms of their class consciousness. German embodies a bourgeois nostalgia, Alexei exhibits a consciousness more aligned with the lower classes. Furthermore, in The Gambler, the theme of gambling is intertwined with the 'destiny of Russia,' indicating that the theme of gambling extends beyond individual ethics and attitudes toward capital.
