The development of wireless communication and sensing technologies empowers the wireless sensor network (WSN) to apply various environments. Therefore, people can receive convenient smart living services using WSN technology, such as smart home, healthcare, and agriculture. In WSN environments, all of participants communicate each other using wireless channel and this can cause various security vulnerabilities. Thus, secure mutual authentication protocols are necessary for WSN environments. In 2022, Li et al. proposed an anonymous authentication and key agreement scheme for WSN environments. However, we discover that their protocol cannot prevent insider, stolen verifier, and ephemeral secret leakage attacks. To enhance the security drawbacks of Li et al.,s scheme, we suggest a secure and lightweight user authentication protocol for WSN environments. To prove the security of the proposed protocol, we perform a informal security analysis. Therefore, the proposed protocol can provide security for WSN environments. © 2022 IEEE.
