Daegu has been known as the hottest place in the Yeongnam region. This study examined whether Daegu was the hottest place in the Yeongnam region by analyzing the changes and trends in daily maximum temperature, the number of heatwave days, and the number of tropical nights from 1973 to 2023. For the past 50 years, Daegu has been the most heatwave place in the Yeongnam region. However, tropical nights were less common in Daegu than in Pohang and Yangsan. The daily maximum temperature in Daegu was the highest in the Yeongnam region until the 2000s. However, since the 2010s, some points with higher daily maximum temperature have appeared than in Daegu. There is a high possibility that the daily maximum temperature will continue to be higher in Miryang, Gyeongju, Uiseong, Yangsan, and Uiryeong than in Daegu. As a result, Daegu was the highest temperature in summer in the Yeongnam region before the 2000s. However, since the 2010s, extreme high temperatures have been more severe in some places than in Daegu. This trend is expected to increase in the future. Therefore, it is difficult to say that Daegu is the hottest place in the Yeongnam region now and in the future.
