초록

This study explores the reinterpretation of Bukhujeong, the site where the 1907 National Debt Redemption Movement originated, through a contemporary media art video that uses generative AI technologies. Deep learning–based restoration and generation methods—such as super-resolution, colorization, Generative Adversarial Network (GAN), and text-to-video synthesis—have transformed low-resolution black-and-white archival images into high-resolution color videos. AI voice synthesis was used to convey the emotional narrative of Seosangdon, a central historical figure. The spatial and emotional atmosphere of the limited archive was visually reconstructed through documentary research and archival photos. The artistic and communicative effectiveness of the video was evaluated through exhibition and audience response. This study examines the possibilities and limitations of generative AI in reinterpreting historical records, emphasizing its role in expanding affective engagement. By going beyond simple preservation, the study demonstrates how historical archives can evolve into platforms for creative expression and serve as a bridge between past experiences and contemporary society.
