외래어의 출현과 사용 양상에 대한말뭉치언어학적 고찰

초록

This study examines the diachronic trends and frequency of loanwords, their distribution across various topic domains, and related factors to explore the motivations behind speakers' use of loanwords. Using a decade-long newspaper corpus, we extracted 179 loanwords with lexical counterparts identified through unregistered word lists compiled from the messenger corpus, the online conversation corpus, and similar sources. Analysis of their frequency and distribution shows that 99 of these loanwords have maintained stable usage over the 10-year period. Additionally, 17 loanwords were prominent within specific topic domains, with eight demonstrating distinct topic distributions compared to their native equivalents. These findings suggest that speakers may employ loanwords to fulfill particular pragmatic intentions. Furthermore, a co-occurrence analysis of three selected loanwords and their counterparts reveals semantic differences, potentially explaining the distinct usage patterns. This study discusses these pragmatic and semantic differences as possible motivations for speakers' preference for loanwords over their native equivalents.
