초록
This study analyzes the impact of the digital divide and digital exclusion experienced by the elderly on their life satisfaction and mental health, and explores the role that digital supporters can play in bridging these gaps. The research targets 2,268 elderly individuals aged 65 and older, utilizing data from the “2021 Korean Media Panel Survey” conducted by the Korea Information Society Development Institute. The study examines differences in digital proficiency based on household composition (single-person households, couple-only households, and multi-generational households). The analysis reveals that the digital divide varies according to household type, with single-person households showing the lowest digital proficiency. Furthermore, the results indicate that elderly individuals with higher digital proficiency tend to have more positive life satisfaction and mental health outcomes. Digital supporters were found to play a significant role in enhancing digital skills among the elderly, thereby contributing substantially to their overall well-being. This study emphasizes that addressing the digital divide is a crucial factor in improving the quality of life for the elderly, and suggests the need for the role of digital supporters and policy interventions to support this effort.
