동물학대와 가정폭력 및 아동학대의 연관성: 국외 연구의 고찰과 국내 현황

초록

This study examined international papers to present the connection between animal abuse and domestic violence/child abuse, while also reviewing domestic status. Animal abuse is not merely an act of violence against animals but also serves as a precursor and predictive indicator of potential violence toward humans. The findings reveal a high co-occurrence rate between domestic violence/child abuse and animal abuse. Cases where both child abuse and animal abuse occur simultaneously were notably prevalent, Furthermore, when children witness or directly experience animal abuse during their developmental years, they are more likely to normalize and internalize violence, increasing the likelihood of perpetuating violent behaviors toward both animals and humans in adulthood. Consequently, animal abuse should be recognized not only as an animal welfare issue but also as a critical early indicator for identifying risks of domestic violence and child abuse. The study emphasizes the importance of early detection and intervention in cases of animal abuse as a key strategy for child protection and the prevention of broader social violence.
