초록
This study examines contemporary media art by focusing on the concept of "imagined landscape" as an artistic method to realize ecospatial experiences that combine the real and the virtual. Advancements in technology have facilitated the development of a variety of interfaces that extend sensory experiences in art, thereby giving rise to novel art forms that visualize the ecological imagination by blurring the boundaries between the virtual and the real. This study explores the evolution of technology-based interfaces and sensory media as the primary catalysts of ecological art experiences. It defines an art space that fosters audience immersion, interaction, and sensory empathy as an "imagined landscape." Accordingly, the media installations that are representative of imagined landscapes are categorized into three types: "natural sensation," "data-based simulation," and "experience convergence." The implementation methods and aesthetic characteristics of each type are analyzed. The cases were meticulously selected from prominent international media art festivals, such as Ars Electronica and the Biennale, to investigate the ecological orientation and artistic practice of contemporary media art. The objective of this study is to broaden the scope of research in ecological aesthetics and media art by interpreting the sensory experience of ecological space as a convergence of technology and art. The study further suggests the possibility of its practice through a novel artistic concept of "imagined landscape."
